For the longest time, I’ve wanted to create an intimate and engaging networking experience that brings like-minded, entrepreneurial women together to inspire and encourage each other to pursue their own businesses. Not only would the women attending the event be able to learn from each other, but also gain up close and personal access to women who have already become entrepreneurs and know what it takes to go from a passionate idea to full-fledged business.

Well after months of hee-ing and haw-ing and nail biting and planning and finally launching a registration page and announcing it for the world to see…the first DREAM JOB BRUNCH actually happened this past Sunday, and I couldn’t have been more pleased. There were definitely some nerves (I forgot to put on mascara AND forgot to fluff out my curls AND forgot to do introductions…) but in spite of my jitters, everything went really well.

Some very friendly, creative and entrepreneurial ladies joined me and Nancy Twine, CEO and brand founder of Briogeo, in the bright and sunny M Wild’s Studio in Midtown Manhattan. We had a light brunch of bagels with smoked salmon, muffins, and yogurt with fresh fruit and granola. Oh, and of course, mimosas! The ladies ate and got a chance to meet each other and network a bit.

Then Nancy Twine joined us for a really lively and engaging discussion about how she got started in the beauty industry, how she transitioned from a job in finance to owning her own business, and why she chose to work full-time while getting Briogeo off the ground (read more about Nancy in her DREAM JOB Interview). Nancy also answered questions and got into the nitty gritty of how to secure funding, thinking through your business plan, the need for networking, and how to gain expertise in a brand new field.

To wrap up the event, we had a fun giveaway: a super inspirational bag from Darin Michelle’s new line, 19FIFTYTHREE, which reminded the lucky winner to “Dream Big.” And Nancy was kind enough to treat all the ladies with samples of Briogeo’s Don’t Despair, Repair! Conditioning Mask and bottles of her Rosarco Oil (a fan fave on Sephora’s website).

I had such a great time meeting all the ladies that came out (on Mother’s Day, no less!) and shared their hopes and dreams and questions. It was such an inspiring place to be, and I cannot wait to get started on the next DREAM JOB BRUNCH! I’d love to do one of these every other month for the rest of the year, so if you didn’t make it to Sunday’s brunch, don’t worry. You’ll have another chance =)

Thanks to everyone who attended, and a very special thanks to Nancy Twine for spending some time with us and sharing so much inspiration and amazing advice. Last but not least, two HUGE thanks go out to my new cousin Alicia and my husband Q for picking up, setting up, arranging (and re-arranging), photographing and making sure this event was such a huge success! I’m so blessed to have so many people believe in my vision and support the DREAM JOB BRUNCH. This is the best thing that’s happened to me in a while, and I’m oh, so GRATEFUL.

It seems to have been a very rich event in its
content! In Brazil, we have meetings for women’s empowerment too! It’s
so important to get some strength from people who think in the same way!

    • It really was, Cristiane. I learned A LOT . And I agree with you–getting together with like-minded people is so empowering!

  • Awesome turn out, Krystal!! I wouldn’t have even noticed the thing you mentioned if you didn’t mention them. And that skirt is everything.
