I just found Danielle’s blog, Love 416, and I love it (and her!) for several reasons. She’s relatively new to blogging, but she’s taken so much time and effort to make her blog absolutely BEAUTIFUL. She’s a fellow life + style blogger, she’s a fellow Jamaican, AND she has such a great sense of style. I feel like her style is truly personal; everything on her blog feels that way, like we’re really getting an inside peek into her life. I can’t wait to how her blog grows this year.
Tell us a bit about your blog and why you started blogging.
The name of my blog is LOVE 416. It is a lifestyle blog that documents all the things I love about the 416 (Toronto), including food, SHOPPING and just the lifestyle in general. There is more of a focus though on my personal style, so it’s Toronto through my eyes. I started blogging because I was studying so much in university, and I was desperately looking for an outlet to express myself. I started a Youtube channel first and a blog later on. To this day, there’s nothing I’m more passionate about, and I love that feeling I get when the picture comes out just right to complement the look of a freshly published post.
What are 5 fashion items (clothes, shoes, accessories, etc.) that describe your personal style?
Slouchy sweaters – I love juxtaposing them with [dressier] pieces.
Black Leggings – I hate feeling constricted, so I rarely wear jeans; leggings are my favourite alternative.
Black boots – I have so many and I keep buying more, they’re just so… “boot-y” lol
Rings, rings, rings – On either end of the spectrum, either the very plain kind or the more statement pieces.
Red lipstick – Preferably Ruby Woo by MAC. It brings up my mood on down days, and gives me a boost of confidence!
What’s your go-to hairstyle?
My hair is rather short right now, so I tend to stick to things that take as little time as possible, I usually just spritz it with water, add some Castor oil, and finish it off with göt2b’s kinkier curl cream.
How do you feel about the presence of Black fashion bloggers and Black style bloggers (too many, not enough, etc.)
Ugh, [there] just [aren’t] enough of us! However, the dynamic in the blogosphere very much represents the fashion scene on a much smaller scale, i.e. [there aren’t] a lot of Black faces in fashion, period. Even though there are so few of us, I feel that the ones who do blog regularly definitely have their presence felt, and they are FIERCE!
Tell us anything else you think we should know…
I am a huge blog design nerd, haha! I love fashion, but I also love the whole blogging bit that goes into the backend, the website layout, the html, the css, logos etc. I can do that, and I will sit and do it for hours, to the point where [now] I end up designing blogs for other people.
