So I finally did it. I dyed my natural hair before my 30th birthday. Another thing to cross off my 30 before 30 list!
I got it done so long ago, I’d all but forgotten that I hadn’t put any photos up on the blog!!! So before I took down an old Curlformer set, I decided to take a few photos so you all can see the results!
I dyed my hair when I was in D.C. the weekend before last. I’m so glad I did it in D.C. because I had my girls on hand for moral support (xo to Zaynab and L’Kel for staying in the salon with me!) I was SO NERVOUS! I felt like I was in the doctor’s office. It was that nerve-wrecking. I mean, I’ve never done anything to my natural hair. Ever. Sure, I’ve used henna in my hair, but that’s like a deep conditioner. This dye job was the real deal.
Can I tell you something? I absolutely HATED my hair when it was first done. I thought I’d made a huge mistake. The color was just so different from what my hair had always looked like. Now? I can’t imagine why it took me so long to dye my hair. This feels like me. It’s feisty (like me!) but it isn’t overwhelming. The color is great too, and I’m already thinking of being a little bit blonder…
I’ve been very good about making sure I moisturize and seal my hair day and night, but especially now that I’ve bleached my hair. I washed it myself for the first time, and it didn’t feel like straw or anything. It still feels like the rest of my hair, and I aim to keep it that way! My fine hair is fragile enough as is. I definitely took a risk with the color, but I’m not going to be a slave to my fine strands. Hopefully twice daily moisturizing and deep conditioning weekly is enough to keep my hair healthy and breakage free.
So far…two thumbs up! I’m loving my new color!
