The last few weeks of 2013 were so busy. Holidays and traveling and parties and Christmas shopping…there was a lot going on, but it was all so much fun. The only I regret is going in to work on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. I will NEVER do that again. One, it’s a waste of my time. And two, if a place of employment won’t give me those days off, there’s no way I’m going into the office. I personally think most nonprofits can shut down between Christmas and New Year’s. Especially a small one like mine. We’re already working longer hours for less money. Give us a free week!
Towards the end of 2013, I started styling my hair in a curly fro just about every week. Loved it. It was just such fun, big hair. I’ve worn my usual twistout the past few times I’ve co-washed my hair, but I’m definitely going back to the curly fro this weekend. I also think I’m close to figuring out the “holy grail” of products for my low-porosity hair. More coming next week!
I celebrated 16 years of baptism on December 7th. Even after all this time, “He’s never failed me yet.” My spiritual walk is changing, deepening and becoming more relevant. I’m working on strengthening my faith. There are things I can leave 100% to the Lord and things that I still feel I need to help Him do. More and more, I’m recognizing my obvious shortcomings and inability to control certain things in my life. I couldn’t have made it this far without the Lord, and I need to trust Him to take me through this next phase in my life. That means bringing all my hopes and dreams and laying them at Jesus’ feet, and allowing Him to turn them into something great in His own time.
That said though, I do believe God has been leading me to do some really great things. I’ve been really inspired over the past few weeks, and it’s been great to share that inspiration with other bloggers (my “Blogger Boos!”) I’ve had some really great chat sessions with Dhruvi of Stilettos and Sequins, and Desiree of Brownstone Bazaar. These ladies are proud of what I’m doing and encourage me to keep going, and I feel the same way about them. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us this year!
I was so excited for NYE. It was my first time actually going “out.” In years past, I just did house parties, or church. I bought a dress weeks in advance, before I even knew what my plans were going to be. I saw it and fell in love with it though. It’s a fit-and-flare Cynthia Rowley Seamed Iridescent Dress. It’s a holographic Cynthia Rowley scuba dress. With pockets. Uhhhhh, yeah, of course I was going to buy it. Even with nowhere to go. And I bought it on Gilt, so I got a great deal too. I got it shortened a bit (I took 3″ off the hem), but otherwise the dress was perfect as is. Such a fun party dress, and it’s attention-grabbing without causing a scene…perfect for my first NYE out in NYC.
I ended 2013 on a high note (I even went to the gym on New Year’s Day!), and I’m sooooo ready for 2014. There’s so much I want to accomplish this year, and it’s going to take a lot of hard work, but I’m ready! 2013 was cool, but I’m okay with saying, “Adios.”
