Feisty Fashion Feature // Lucy Dazilma of Lucy’s Pearls

May 3, 2013

There are people who sit on Pinterest for hours and get lost in the rabbit hole of what they think it means to be “inspired.” And then there are people who actually live inspired lives; Lucy is one of those people. You get it all with Lucy’s Pearls: it’s fun, it’s honest, and it’s just really cool. Every iPhone photo is taken in real time and makes you think, “I should do more of what Lucy’s doing!” Lucy does it all, and she does it with great style. I’m so happy that I know her more than just another blogger, and she’s been such an inspiration to me! Get to know more about Lucy below!

Tell us a bit about your blog and why you started blogging.
I started blogging in 2008 as a college assignment. I officially started my life & style blog in January 2010. I had no inkling of what direction I would take it then. In 2012, I changed the name of my blog to Lucy’s Pearls because…my name *really* is Lucy and I do love pearls. I use pearls to describe the beautiful things I love and discuss on my blog. The sole focus of Lucy’s Pearls is to share my inspirations from art, culture, style and people with my readers.

What are 5 fashion items (clothes, shoes, accessories, etc.) that describe your personal style?

  • Dresses
  • Boyfriend jeans
  • Oversized t-shirts
  • Flats
  • White tees
I suppose what I love the most about style is that it is unique to the person. No matter how many people purchase the same Forever 21 dress, no one will wear it exactly like me. It’s so important to understand your style and what works for you. I’m a pretty casual girl.

What’s your go-to hairstyle?

I’ve done almost every style imaginable. With the exception of locs and a jerry curl :/

I love the versatility of [wearing different] hairstyles. I hate that due to societal pressures, women think [it] necessary to have long, straight hair. There’s nothing wrong with [long and straight hair], but my beauty doesn’t rely on what’s on my head. Whether I’m rocking a low cut fade or a full fro, I will still be me. I’m not afraid to chop it all off or grow it all out over and over again. It’s just hair.

How do you feel about the presence of Black style bloggers (too many, not enough, etc.)

Everywhere we go, we’re always the minority. Because of that, it’s important that we put out quality content. Eventually, we’ll be recognized for our work. All things in due time.

Tell us anything else you think we should know.

You won’t find much high fashion on my blog. I have a Pinterest board for that. Fashion for me is purely instructional. It’s a guide to helping me craft my own unique style. Fashion is cut and paste. Style takes time to develop. And that’s how I look at it.
