I don’t know if it was turning 27, or realizing that my parents aren’t in a position to pay for my wedding, or being faced with the fact that the grant that pays my salary is over in 2014…something has made me very aware of my spending habits, and very…frugal. I have reduced my monthly “allowance” and I’ve been shoving all my extra money into my savings account. That said, I don’t have a lot of money left for buying clothes.
For this reason, I have decided to pick a “lucky dozen”: 13 key pieces that I can rotate during the season to make a month’s worth of outfits. A different outfit each day! It sounds impossible (I didn’t believe it), but it’s been done. Last fall, the editors at Lucky Magazine chose 13 pieces from Banana Republic’s fall collection and created 31 days of outfits.
How cool is that? It’s a great way to pack light for a trip, and an even better way to pare down your closet. I definitely plan on using this method to keep from spending money this season. I probably already have some pieces that I could use as part of a “lucky dozen.” I’d probably cheat a little bit with the shoes…I can’t wear only two pairs of shoes for an entire month! I’ll be working on my “lucky dozen” this week and let you know what pieces I chose!
